Manager of Research & Development, Imperial Glass Co., Bellaire, OH.

He worked closely with mixing room personnel, furnace men, maintenance personnel, and the skilled glass workers in hot metal. At the beginning of the first turn in the morning, a presser could "feel" the glass and tell him if it had the proper consistency.

Axel Ottoson was the son of Carl Ottoson. Axel was born December 15, 1912 and died December 11, 1988

Carl W. Ottoson

Technical Resources
Glass Cutting Forman, Imperial Glass Co., Bellaire, OH.

Carl Ottoson began learning his glass cutting trade in Kosta, Sweden in fifth grade.  After graduating from school and serving in the Swedish Navy, he settled in Chicago, Illinois in 1910.  He married his childhood sweetheart Anna Rehn who came to Chicago in 1911.

Carl assumed the position of foreman of a cutting shop in Chicago.  Then, as Imperial Glass was reorganizing in 1931, Earl Newton recruited him to preside over Imperial’s newly formed glass-cutting subsidiary Crown Glass at 33rd & Hamilton Street.  He trained many new glass cutters to fulfill Newton’s goal of Imperial doing more in-house cutting than had been done prior to reorganization.  He continued to run the cutting shop at Imperial after the shop was moved into the Imperial Glass building until he retired in 1955.

Carl Ottoson was the brother of Ernest Ottson and father to Axel Ottoson. Carl was born January 25, 1886 and died February 16, 1962
