Corning to Build New Glass Center

Plans for the world's most comprehensive facilities for research and education in glass were announced at a press conference at New York's Hotel Waldorf Astoria on February 5 by Amory Houghton, chairman of the board of Corning Glass Works, and other company officials.

The new building, the Glass Center, in Corning, N. Y.,
will embrace the most complete reference library of glass in existence, a museum housing collections of glass objects representing every field of glassmaking in history, and a new Steuben Glass factory, with spectators' galleries from which all production observations may be observed.

Opening of the Glass Center is planned for early summer, which is the centennial of Corning Glass Works. Architects for the project are Harrison and Abramovitz, prominently associated with Rockefeller Center and the United Nations buildings.

It is expected that the new Steuben plant will become a magnet for the general public, which has always shown great interest in the process of glass making.
